NEIA is governed by an 8-member board elected from the membership. Directors serve for a two year term and can serve for four (4) consecutive years before taking a one year hiatus. There are four categories of membership: Full, Associate, Affiliate and Individual.

Susan Sherk

(Acting Chair)

AMEC Environment & Infrastructure

Susan is an anthropologist and has been a Senior Associate with AMEC Earth and Environmental in St. John’s for the past 15 years. Prior to joining AMEC, she was Assistant Deputy Director of Tourism with the provincial government, a Commissioner of the province’s Economic Recovery Commission, and Manager of Corporate Communications with both Michelin Tires Canada and the former Mobil Canada – East Coast. Susan also worked for Mobil Corporation in New York City for two years as Community Affairs Advisor. Since joining AMEC she has focused on socio-economic impact assessments, land use studies, economic development and strategic planning and tourism projects. Her work has taken her to more than 10 countries working on such diverse projects as ExxonMobil’s Sakahlin -1 project in the Russian Far East, Premier - Shell’s Seismic Project in Pakistan, World Bank’s Katmandu Water Valley project in Nepal, Population studies for the Govenrment of China and mining projects throughout Northern Canada and the United States (e.g. Rio tinto, Newmont, De Beers). Local clients have included Nalcor, Vale, Rio Tinto, and numerous municipalities and zoning boards.

Susan currently sits on the Board of Directors of Altius Minerals Corporation and IGM Financial and is a former Board of Director of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board. She is a volunteer Director of Wonderbolt Circus and Winterset Literary Festival.

Andrea Lundrigan

Vice President

AMEC Environment & Infrastructure

Andrea is an environmental geoscientist and has been a Project Manager with AMEC Environment & Infrastructure for the past 5 years. Prior to joining AMEC, she was worked with Pinchin LeBlanc Environmental. Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University and a Masters in Geology from Acadia University, having focused her studies in applied geochemistry. Her work experience in the environmental consulting industry has afforded her opportunities to manage projects in the areas of contaminated sites, municipal solid waste management, hazardous materials, and occupational hygiene. As the Quality Management System (QMS) manager and a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) co-ordinator for AMEC’s offices in Newfoundland and Labrador, she plays an integral part in maintaining and advancing their QMS (ISO 9001:2008) and HSE management programs.

As well as serving on NEIA’s Board of Directors, Andrea has served on the Board of the Manuels River Natural Heritage Society. She shares her love of music, sports and animals with her husband Jason and two children, Audrey and Jake.

Dale Decker

Director

Submariner North Atlantic

Dale is a CNLOPB certified Diving Safety Specialist, working as a consultant to the offshore oil and gas industry. As a certified Project Manager with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, Dale has fulfilled many roles at the supervisory, managerial and executive levels. These include Manager of Operations, Technical Director, Company Representative and Project Manager. His position as Technical Director at the Center for Offshore and Remote Medicine (MEDICOR) Hyperbaric Facility, Memorial University Faculty of Medicine included the role of ISO 17025 Internal Auditor for the MEDICOR Air Quality Laboratory.

Dale’s professional career as a commercial diver demands careful attention to environmental issues that could impact projects and the health and safety of workers. These include a thorough knowledge of regulations, standards and best industry practices to mitigate the risks associated with working in a hazardous occupation and environment. He has significant experience evaluating the risks to the environment, especially as it relates to marine life from the activities associated with the offshore oil and gas industry.

Don Drew

Director

Newco Metals

Don, along with his wife Rosalynn, and children Jessica, Heather, and Kevin, are proud to call the historic Town of Bay Bulls home. Don has recently joined Newco Metals Ltd. after serving three years as Sales and Marketing Director with NLL Recycling Ltd. For 13 years he has held positions as mayor, deputy-mayor, and councillor with the Town of Bay Bulls. During that time Bay Bulls received more municipal awards than any other town in the province. Don has also served 22 years as president of the Harbour Authority of Bay Bulls (longest serving port representative in Eastern Canada), 25 years as owner/operator of a commercial fishing enterprise, 8 years as a Marine Emergency Duties instructor, and 9 years as a Red Cross First Aid Instructor.

He is the 2006 recipient of the Irish Loop Economic Development Board Volunteer of the Year Award. He holds diplomas/certificates in Marine Diesel Engineering, Fishery Science Technical, and Marine Safety Instructor from the Marine Institute. Don has also completed a certificate in Economic Development Tourism with the University of Moncton, along with training in Environmental Awareness, Health and Safety, and Community Leadership. He also serves as a volunteer on numerous committees and boards throughout the province.

Frank Ricketts

Director

Nalcor Energy

Frank is currently Manager of Environmental Services for Nalcor Energy. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University and a Masters in Environmental Studies from York University. His early work experience was with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador implementing regulatory controls for municipal and industrial waste, and pollution prevention for industrial activities. He also worked with the Province in developing Protected Areas designation for sensitive ecological and wilderness areas.

Frank has worked with Nalcor Energy/Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro for the past 20 years, and has been involved in the development and implementation of environmental management system processes, impact assessment studies, contaminated lands programs, environmental auditing programs and all aspects of pollution prevention for the company.  As well as serving on NEIA’s Board of Directors and associated committees for several years, Frank has also served on the Canadian Electricity Association's Sustainable Electricity Program Steering Committee. He enjoys salmon fishing, hiking, and spending time with family.

Perry Trimper

Director

Stantec Consulting Ltd.

Perry is a Senior Associate with Stantec Consulting Ltd. with over 25 years experience as an environmental scientist working predominantly in northern ecosystems, resource development and environmental assessment. In addition to regional roles with Stantec he is also on the Board of two Inuit and Innu limited partnership companies in Labrador: Aivek Stantec, and Stassinu Stantec respectively. He started with Jacques Whitford (now Stantec) in Labrador when he moved to the Province in 1987. In Labrador he has been involved in every environmental assessment in the region since then, and he has managed terrestrial ecology for many projects as well. His work outside Labrador has included northern Canada, Alaska and Russia.

Perry is an involved resident of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, volunteering with several organizations related to economic development and capacity-building such as the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce, Goose Bay Citizens Coalition, and Expo Labrador. He was elected to the Board of NEIA in the spring of 2009.
