Oceans Ltd. is one of the premier ocean research and technology companies in Atlantic Canada and provides marine expertise to its clients. The company specializes in: marine weather forecasting, climate studies, oceanographic field studies, wind and wave extreme analysis, fish health biomonitoring, manufacturing of navigational aids, iceberg profiling, and marine search and rescue R&D. The company has been in operation since 1981 and has been under the same management since that time. Based in Newfoundland, with an additional office in Halifax, Oceans Ltd. has the longest running private marine weather / seastate forecasting office in Atlantic Canada, along with several experienced meteorologists in the region. The company has numerous contracts in place with major oil industry players operating off Canada's East Coast, including Petro-Canada (Terra Nova Development), ExxonMobil Canada (Hibernia, Sable Offshore Energy), Marathon Oil Canada, and Husky Energy. In addition, the company is currently performing work under contracts that it has in place with the Canadian Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
